What is Marma?
For centuries, practitioners have mapped the human body and associated different limbs, organs, immune responses, and even emotions with specific energy points. These “points” are called acupuncture or acupressure points in Chinese medicine, and in Ayurveda also yogic healing as Marma points. This is not to say that the two systems are mutually exclusive - many books on marma points also talk about meridians, and many books on acupuncture mention chakras. According to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, energy (prana or chi) can stagnate at these points. Both systems have healing practices aimed at releasing energy, either by acupuncture or acupressure.
Marma points are energy points in the body that are used for healing in Ayurveda.
They can be compared to acupuncture points in Chinese medicine.
What is Abhyanga?
Abhyanga - is a treatment of full body massage, from head to toe, usually with warm sesame oil, but it can also be done with other oils depending on the individual body prakrti - the innate body type.
The treatment begins with a pleasant and relaxing scalp massage after which the person moves to a massage table and receives a deeply relaxing and purifying Abhyanga treatment. Depending on the current state, sesame oil can be enriched with natural essential oils that will bring the whole system closer to its own balanced state.
The treatment is deeply cleansing due to the larger amount of warm oil that penetrates all the way to the bone marrow.
The heat of the oil is very suitable for opening pores in the skin leading to deep detoxification.
Why is it important to perform regular detoxification?
The most important thing is the reduction of ama (toxins in the body).
Ama is a waste that accumulates in the body and according to Ayurveda is the root cause of all diseases.
By effectively eliminating ama, we take a big step toward healing while keeping ama level low prevents imbalance or disease from developing at all.
